Photo Phail

 

Thought I had a good idea.

 

I was wrong.

 

Figured I’d get up close and personal with a spinning power tool and (with the magic of photography) explore the mayhem that’s going on as the high speed router bit chews its way through some wood.

 

The bit was waaaaayyyy too fast for the camera by itself… At 1/4000 of a second it is just a blur.

 

Breakout the flash unit (aka Speedlight) and set it to it’s fastest setting of 1/20,000 of a second and BOOM, motion frozen! But it really didn’t look very exciting so I split the difference and shot it again around 1/10,000 so there would still be some visible motion. Well, that did what it was supposed to, but what a boring fucking image. There’s no chaos… no excitement… just a few very small bits of wood flying around. In short, “Boring”.

 

Oh well, at least I got a chance to see what the flash was capable of doing.
